About

Hello! I'm Houssam.

I am Lebanese, born in Beirut in 1980. My passion for the digital domain started at a very young age; I was an avid gamer and always thought I would become a game designer. In 1995, I discovered Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, which amazed me with the possibility to create digital art. This interest, combined with the web boom, set the trajectory of my career. Before turning 18, I landed my first full-time job as a web and multimedia designer at a leading Lebanese tech group, spending six years at various web and advertising agencies to gain experience. In 2004, I graduated from the State University of New York with a degree in Graphic Art Design.

Now, 25 years later, I have evolved into a multidisciplinary marketing communications expert, still driven by the passion that initially sparked my career. Many people have inspired me from day one, and I've come to realize that collaboration is the best part of my work. I enjoy working with people, guiding others, watching them grow, achieving together, and celebrating our successes.

I moved to Doha, Qatar, in 2005, where I spent 18 years leading marketing teams and initiatives in various large-scale organizations.

Currently, I'm dividing my time between Dubai and Beirut, focusing on building a tech startup and engaging in consultancy work.

Houssam El Zein at the mountain top

While working on this website, I thought deeply about its purpose and realized attracting potential clients was not my primary goal. It's more about genuinely understanding and positioning myself. The content is personal and not developed with a sales mindset. I see this space as a canvas for continuous development and self-expression.

For instance, I describe myself as a “multidisciplinary marketing expert,” knowing well this keyword has low search intent, whereas “Strategic Marketing Consultant” might be more SEO-friendly.

Interests

I'm passionate about digital art and technology in its various forms. Additionally, I'm an avid cooking enthusiast with a special fondness for Mediterranean dishes. This cuisine appeals to me not only for its health benefits but also for its rich use of herbs.

Over the past year, I committed to my health and fitness which has profoundly impacted my lifestyle. Regular exercise has empowered me to take control of my life, bringing about a positive change in my well-being and self-perception. This has lead me to work on a project related to health and fitness that is aimed to help people get monetize their time to get healthier and earn money which will hopefully be revealed very soon as it is still in ideation stage.

I'm very intrigued by human psychology and design, particularly how the human mind influences behavior, creativity, and interaction with our environments.

The Bauhaus
Art Movement

Work of Herbert Bayer. Learn more

As a Graphic Art graduate, I have always viewed art as the paramount form of expression in societies. Historically, art movements have not only shaped societies but continue to influence them profoundly. During my academic journey, a standout project for me was one focused on typography, drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus art movement. The project I did, inspired by Kandinsky, left a lasting impression, significantly influencing my artistic perspective.

As I embarked on creating my personal website, I revisited my passion for the Bauhaus movement. The creative theme of the website pays tribute to this artistic inspiration. In designing the graphic elements, I drew from the sun and the ocean – both potent symbols of life – and incorporated shapes inspired by Bauhaus art, especially the works of Herbert Bayer.

The Bauhaus movement, founded in 1919 by architect Walter Gropius in Weimar, Germany, represented a revolutionary vision for art. Gropius aspired to create an educational hub where diverse artistic disciplines – painting, sculpture, architecture – would coalesce, fostering a holistic artistic environment.
